  5th February 2012

Dear St Mary’s Parishioners

It seems only a short time ago that I was writing to you wishing you a joyous Christmas and a happy New Year and here we are already into February 2012.

In today’s Gospel we come to know that Jesus' power and authority extend over all things. He cures the sick and He drives out evil spirits. Even today Jesus’ Divine Word possesses the same strength and authority. Jesus is the Prophet and Teacher Who speaks the Word of the Father on the breath of the Spirit. Let us open our hearts to hear His voice and receive His healing power.

The prayers at Mass today are a call to God to protect us.

In the Opening Prayer we ask God’s care for His family, the Church, so that those who rely on God’s grace may receive the shelter of His protection . The Prayer over the offerings contrasts earthly things and heavenly things: God gives us bread and wine to be our nourishment; in the Eucharist these fruits of the earth become the sacrament of eternity. We who share in the “one Bread and one Chalice” must become one in Christ, working towards the salvation of all (the Prayer after Communion.)

May God bless you all

Fr Peter
